Air Dino is a Dino Dan episode from season 2. In this episode, Dan learns a bit about teamwork and planning from the Dromaeosauruses when he and his friends play Mr. Drumheller in a friendly game of basketball.

Plot[]

The episode starts with Dan doing Dino Experiment 209: Did Dinosaurs Make Plans? Dan sets up a bucket full of sandwiches for the Dromaeosaurus group that appears in his backyard. The first one didn't get it (landing in the sandbox), and the second didn't, either (landing in their pool). The third one climbs atop a lounge chair and knocks it down from the tree. Dan also realizes that they were making a plan by chirping at each other. He concludes the experiment and heads off to school.

At school, Mr. Drumheller tells him and his friends that they were playing basketball. He says that they will learn a few things from an expert. When Cory asks where the "expert" is, Drumheller says that he is the expert, and asks them if he ever told them that he almost turned into a professional basketball player, with the kids saying that he "sprained his ankle on the final playoff game of the season" in a tone that sounded like they have heard it a million times before. He then asks the students what the key to being a great athlete is and he reveals it as "planning". Smart sports teams get together to discuss what they are going to do and practice it. Dan says that there are some smart dinosaurs, like the Dromaeosauruses. Mr. Drumheller divides the kids into teams. Angie, Ricardo, and Jordan are team ladybug while Dan, Cory, and Kami are team Dromaeosaurus. The kids have ten minutes to practice their dribbling and passing and to also develop a plan.

Team Dromaeosaurus is practicing their shooting when Kami accidentally hits Mr. Drumheller's ankle, Cory misses and cheers for himself, and Dan misses and gets the ball as it rolls away. When he goes to retrieve it, he spots a Dromaeosaurus and asks if they are planning something. Mr. Drumheller then blows his whistle, and the kids gather around him. He tells team Ladybug that they are up first, with Angie asking why they are not playing against team Dromaeosaurus. He wanted the kids to learn from him and play against him. He dismisses team Dromaeosaurus to continue practicing their plan. He then starts his first game against team ladybug, with Mr. Drumheller telling them a knock-knock joke after scoring a point.

Meanwhile, Team Dromaeosaurus is continuing to discuss their plan. Cory proposes that he bounces the ball on the ground and make it go into the net. This only causes the ball to roll away. Dan goes to get the ball when he spots the Dromaeosauruses and hopes he can come up with a plan. Suddenly, a Tyrannosaurus Rex shows up and comes face-to-face with the Dromaeosauruses. Dan tells the dinosaurs that he needs the ball for their game and that they need a plan to get past Mr. Drumheller, who is bigger, taller, and stronger than them. He then realizes that the T-Rex has the same characteristics as Mr. Drumheller. As Dan watches, he sees that they fake him out, then go right. He says that his team could definitely use that plan. He returns to his team to discuss his plan.

Mr. Drumheller and Team Ladybug are finishing up their game, in which Drumheller ultimately wins. They high five and say "good game" afterward, with Ricardo remarking that he is an expert. Team Dromaeosaurus then goes up against Mr. Drumheller and put their plan into motion, with Team Ladybug cheering them on from the sidelines. Kami dribbles the ball to the left, faking him out. She passes the ball to Cory, who fakes right, then passes it to Dan. Dan continues dribbling until Mr. Drumheller is ultimately faked out and Dan scores the winning basket. Mr. Drumheller announces that they have won and that he wants a rematch, next class. Kami suggests that they can fake him out right, left, then right, and Cory makes up a silly plan. Dan thanks the Dromaeosauruses, and the episode ends with all six playing against Mr. Drumheller, who makes a basket.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Dino Dan episode to feature basketball.
  • The kids say that Mr. Drumheller sprained his ankle on the final playoff game of the season in a tone that sounds like they have heard it a million times before.
  • Dan and his friends tell Mr. Drumheller some trivia about the Dromaeosaurus:
    • They are one of the smartest dinosaurs.
    • They are from the Velociraptor family.
    • They hunt in packs and need to work together.
  • Kami most likely chose the name Dromaeosaurus for her team because Dan was on it and is an expert when it comes to dinosaurs. He reaches over and gives her a high five for choosing it for their team.
  • This is one of the many episodes that only takes place outdoors.

Goofs[]

  • While Dan is watching the Dromaeosauruses get past the T-Rex, one of them can be seen through his body.
  • Mr. Drumheller keeps mispronouncing "Dromaeosaurus", but Dan doesn't correct him.
  • When Team Dromaeosaurus goes to play against Mr. Drumheller, Cory is on the left and Dan is on the right. In the next shot, when they are face-to-face with Mr. Drumheller, they have switched places. This error also occurs with Team Ladybug on the sidelines. Jordan is on the left, Angie is in the middle, and Ricardo is on the right, but in the next shot, Angie is on the left, Ricardo is in the middle, and Jordan is on the right.
  • When Cory passes the ball to Dan, he is seen standing next to Mr. Drumheller. In the next shot on the ground, he is seen running away from Mr. Drumheller, even though he already passed the ball to Dan. He was most likely getting out of the way.
  • When Dan returns with the basketball, there is mud on it, just like Kami states, but when they play against Mr. Drumheller, the ball appears to be clean.
  • The ball should have popped or flattened when the last Dromaeosaurus jumped on it because of how sharp his claws are.
  • When Team Dromaeosaurus huddles up to discuss Dan's plan, it sounds like they are all whispering, even though Dan is the only one whispering.
  • When Dan sees a Dromaeosaurus in the schoolyard, he says "Hey, are you guys planning something"? There is only one Dromaeosaurus when he picks up the ball, but when Mr. Drumheller blows his whistle, there are two.
